Colorado Wildfires

Do you need a battery backup garage door opener?

In 2020, we were impacted all along the Front Range by the Cameron Peak Fire. The Cameron Peak fire burned more than 200,000 acres in Colorado and became the largest wildfire on record in Colorado.

While we drove around servicing garage doors in the Fort Collins and Loveland area we were surrounded by apocalyptic style smoke and ash raining down. This was a very sad time for Colorado residents. At least five people were found deceased in their garages being unable to open their garage door because their home lost power due to the wildfire.

A few states to the west of us including California responded to their wildfire emergencies by setting new legislation that all garage door openers are required to be installed with Battery Backup mechanisms to work in the event of a power outage.

If you or someone you know lives in or near the Foothills in an area subject to wildfires bring to their attention the safety features of their garage door. All garage doors should have a safety release rope. Double check and make sure they are comfortable opening their garage door manually without their garage door opener.

If they are unable to do so, please have them contact Spring Kings at 970-966-4687 for a quote on installing a battery backup garage door opener.
